Your blogpost about the intergenerational report seems to have disappeared so I'm commenting here. A good test of your hypotheses would be to compare Australia with a country with a much higher dependency ratio today. Japan and several European countries seem to qualify. Yet they are showing the opposite tendencies I think to what you suggest will happen to Australia over time.

Good idea. Straight away I note that unemployment is low in Japan and the living standard is high - higher than ours to the extent these sort of comparisons mean anything.
