We get the stimulus package!
Xenophon has tabled a letter setting out the concessions from Swan.
"A splendid outcome", says Senator Bob Brown. "It must leave the Opposition wondering how on earth they could have missed this bus".

Yay! What a waste of taxpayers money.
I agree with Anonymous - Xenophon is a complete waste of taxpayers money
I think the loaded term of "taxpayer" needs to be scrutinized. Most people at some point will be, are or have been taxpayers. Everyone is a beneficery of government spending in one way or another, not to mention past and future taxpayers. But only wealthy "taxpayers" money is "wasted" on the poor! What a load of blinked BS!
Full marks to Nick - we could use many more pollies with his integrity
To Anonymous No.1 and Chris C, the money for the Murray-Darling Basin had already been allocated as part of the $10 Billion Water Plan initiated by the Howard Government in 2007. Some of the money is merely being brought forward - a move which is absolutely neccessary. Shame it took an independent senator with leverage to get the government to take this neccessary action in order to try and save the Murray-Darling.
I agree with Anonymous No.3. Senator Xenophon has done the country great service with his actions on the Murray-Darling, in my opinion.

Dear Bob Brown, haven't you figured that it was YOU that missed the bus? The Libs position was based on (largely) the size of the package and that hasn't been reduced. The Libs position is not diminished by this outcome at all.
Let it be noted, never take seriously anything Bob Brown says.
Paul Keating was right. Unrepresentative swill. For better or worse a government should be able to implement policies without pandering to someone who got 30,000 votes. This is wielding a disproportionate level of influence. We should get rid of the lot of them (The Senate).
Hey Meagrebones,
If anyone's unrepresentative, it's the Senators who represent the interests of the donors to the major parties rather than the people who actually elected them. In this regard, Xenophon is probably more representative than anyone else.
Remember, it takes 50% plus one Senators to pass or block a bill. Who are the Government expected to deal with - Xenophon or the coalition senators? In the end, the majority of Senators passed the legislation, not just one Senator with the so-called "balance of power".
