Productivity, Coalition style
Approving grants, some at 3.26pm, one at 3.27pm, one at 3.28pm... in the last desperate minutes before the issuing of writs for the 2004 election.

I wonder if the mainstream media is going to make much of this in the final week?
Nice timing from ANAO.
I suspect that governments of both persuasions will try and create a convention that ANAO reports are not released during the caretaker period before elections.

I imagine Denis Shanahan will say it's further evidence of the Coalition's astute economic management (it just being coincidental that most of the grants went to marginal seats).
Mac Smith Milling of Manildra does rather well out of this little pork spray, not sure whether it is for oilseeds or ethanol production. Together with Maryborough Sugar over a third of these last minute approvals goes to businesses. With the nearly late government it is always hard to differentiate between acts of incompetence or mendacity. Anyway I use the Daylesford recreation centre occasionally - so thanks. Won't be changing my vote though.
